The Goal of the fire station building committee was to create a cost effective, durable, 40+ year solution to overcome the ever growing problems that exist in the current fire station.
The Goal of the fire station building committee was to create a cost effective, durable, 40+ year solution to overcome the ever growing problems that exist in the current fire station.
- Every building committee member is a New Boston taxpayer and cost was interwoven into every major design discussion.
- The proposed facility has the same number of apparatus bays (8) as the current station, just more space per bay to address safety, health and training concerns.
- There are absolutely no plans or areas within the proposed building to make this a full-time department, and in fact the ongoing goal of the Fire Wards is to remain a call department for as long as possible.
- In the new location there’s adequate land to expand the proposed station to accommodate a full time department if and when that time arrives. There’s insufficient land in the center of town to accommodate a full time fire department if the need arises.
- A fire department transitions to full time only;
- When volunteerism drops to a level that creates significant delays or deficiencies with members responding to calls.
- When Mutual Aid is called more often than not
- When there’re not enough responders to get all the apparatus out of the station in the event of a major incident.
- When Service Levels drop to an unacceptable level.
- When our leadership runs out of innovative programs to encourage the volunteer membership.
